A loan of $300 helped to buy beehives for honey production.

Jesse's story

Jesse lives in a small village outside of Kakamega town, in Kakamega county. Kakamega is located in Western Kenya and is famous for the Kakamega Forest, the only tropical rain forest in Kenya. It is a very good location for beekeeping due to the old growth trees in the forest and concentration of farms in the area, which provide bees with a variety of forage.

Jesse is married, and has twelve children. Both he and his wife have been farming for thirty-five years, and are currently growing maize, beans and vegetables on their land. Jesse likes beekeeping because “it doesn’t require hard work.”

This is Jesse’s first loan, and he plans to use the income generated from his beehives to take care of his grandchildren and pay people to help him farm. Jesse’s hope for the future is to see his grandchildren grow up well, and live happy lives.
