A loan of $4,100 helped a member to buy wool blankets.

Sociedad Emperadora Group's story

The 'Sociedad Emperadora' community bank are starting their second loan cycle with Pro Mujer, as part of the Los Andes regional office. The group has eight members and is run by a board of directors with Adriana as its president. The businesses that the members of the bank are engaged in are varied and include: selling electrical appliances, running a public telephone service, selling wool blankets, selling toys and making blankets from vicuña wool.

The loan that they are taking out will benefit these micro-businesswomen. Adriana is a member of this group. She says that she has been a member of Pro Mujer for five months, having joined through an invitation from one of the institution's loan officers who visited her at home. Adriana currently has a business selling wool blankets. She started this business with a small amount of capital and was able to buy more stock with money from Pro Mujer loans.

Adriana is taking out this loan to increase her capital. She will buy wool blankets wholesale at the street markets and then re-sell them from her sales location. This work allows her to make income with which to support her household. Adriana is single and has one child.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, Adriana replied that she likes the loans, the training and the health services.
