A loan of $850 helped a member to buy wool.

Amistosas De Cascada Group's story

The "Amistosas de la Cascada" (Friendly Women of the Cascade) communal bank will start its first cycle with Pro Mujer as part of the Cascade regional office. It is made up of six members and is directed by a board, of which Luisa is the President. The members of the communal bank have a variety of businesses. Among them are selling vegetables, knitting sweaters, weaving blankets, and making polleras (traditional skirts).

The loan that they will receive will benefit small micro-businesswomen. Luisa is one of them. She indicates that this is her first time working with Pro Mujer, joining at the invitation of her friend who is part of the institution. Currently she has a business knitting sweaters. She says that she learned this business on her own initiative. Since she needed to generate resources and knew how to knit, she decided to start this business.

The loan she will now receive is for increasing working capital (buying wool) that she will obtain wholesale from businesses in the city of El Alto. After production she will sell them in her booth. This form of work allows her to generate resources to support her household as much as possible, since she is married and has five children.

When she is asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she responds that she likes the health center.
