A loan of $600 helped to buy supplies.

Mercedes's story

Mercedes, 38, works manufacturing and selling shoes and costume jewelry like earrings, bracelets and necklaces. She lives in Cartagena with her spouse and three children aged 10 to 15 years. She started her artisanal work three years ago needing to improve household income. Her main customers are drugstores and novelty shops that she sells her products to on credit daily from 8 in the morning to 8 at night. She makes her purchases from in the city market paying cash; that’s where she finds her supplies at good prices.

Currently, Mercedes is applying for her first Kiva loan to buy supplies like leather, clasps, paint, thread, needles, soles and accessories to continue making shoes and costume jewelry items (earrings, bracelets, and necklaces). Her intention with this is to improve sales and income since her personal goal is to remodel her kitchen so she can feel more satisfied.
