Hassan is a 46-year-old businessman from Liberia. He is married and has three children, between the ages of 10 and 2. Two are currently attending school and they all live at home. Hassan completed grade 2 before starting his business. He describes himself as a hard-working man.
He lives and works in Paynesville North, which has the largest market in Montserrado county. The area is home to “round time marketers”, the local term for traders who travel to the interior regions of the country to purchase goods to sell throughout the county. Because of this, there is a large number of wholesalers operating in the area that distribute to the markets in the county, including supplying the capital city of Monrovia.
Hassan has a general store which sells milk, rice, sardines, mayonnaise, etc. For the past four years, he has worked 12 hours per day at his business. His greatest challenge in business is goods shortages. He intends to use the loan to buy inventory. He started his business by selling for his father. He likes his business because he makes profit. He hopes to one day own two to four shops.
Hassan wants to thank Kiva lenders in advance for their help.
