Cuenca, Ecuador / Sewing

A loan of $1,100 helped to pay the installment for a sewing machine and to buy material for sewing.

Sandra Elizabeth's story

Sandra is getting her sixth loan alongside her friends and companions from the Los Talvos communal bank. She likes the communal bank because at each meeting she chats with her friends about various interesting topics. She lives in the area surrounding the parish of Valle en Cuenca. This place enjoys a cool climate and is surrounded by several mountains and beautiful landscape. Its people are friendly, kind and hard-working and they work in agriculture, raising livestock and trade.

Sandra is 21 years old, married and is going to have her first child. Her husband is a mechanic and works in a workshop which is his own property. He does not have his own house and so lives at home with his parents-in-law and shares in the household expenses.

Sandra is a professional seamstress and has a little workshop where she works from Monday to Saturday with no fixed timetable. She also raises chickens and pigs.

She will invest her loan in paying the installment for a sewing machine that she acquired, and to buy material for sewing. Her goal is to enlarge her workshop.
