A loan of $1,125 helped to buy a plot of farmland.

Francisca's story

Francisca is 41 years old, married, and has four children with whom she lives in her own home which is built from adobe. Francisca farms 4 hectares of land where she grows organic cacao. She has been in this business for around 19 years and, up to now, she has had very good results. She learned how to farm from her parents who also gave her a small plot of cacao when she decided to start working independently. As she started making her own income, Francisca saved up and bought the rest of the plots that she currently owns. To make her work easier, she hires local workers so that she can finish her different tasks in less time which means that she is able to provide uniform maintenance to all her crops. She must also apply fungicides in order to avoid certain weeds from damaging the normal growth of her cacao trees.

Francisca would like to continue increasing the amount of farmland she owns, buying neighboring plots in order to improve her profits and support her children with their schooling until they become professionals some day. On this occasion, she would like to borrow 3,000 soles to buy an additional plot of farmland.
