Esther lives in Sibnkor, a section of Montserrado County, which is the capital of Liberia and its well-known commercial center. She is 38 years old, married, and the mother of three children between the ages of 7 and 13, all of whom are enrolled in school and live at home. For the last six years, she has earned a living by selling dried fish in the local community market. She started this business with help from her husband and learned the trade from her mother. She works for eight hours a day and transports her produce to market by using taxis. She describes herself as business-minded, and enjoys her work because she can earn a good profit. She is requesting a loan to buy more dry fish to sell so that she can expand her sales and pay for the education of her children.
