A loan of $50 helped to pay for ten low-cost LED lights to resell to rural households without electricity.

Vedaste's story

Vedaste is a 44-year-old man from Ngororero District, in the Western Province of Rwanda.

He is seeking a loan of RWF 30,000 to purchase ten rechargeable LED lights, which he will resell to people without electricity in his village. Every week or so, these customers will return to him to have their lights recharged for just RWF 100.

Vedaste started selling lights in October, 2012 and he has sold 20 lights to date, providing clean energy to 100 people. He is also a farmer and will reinvest the money he makes to expand his other business, to earn more money for himself, his wife, Sofia, and their one child.
