A loan of $50 helped to pay for 10 low-cost LED lights to resell to rural households without electricity.

Desire's story

Desire is really encouraged and highly motivated by his light recharging business as a result of financing from Kiva.

He is now seeking a top up loan of RWF 30,000 in order to purchase 10 more rechargeable LED lights which he will resell to people without electricity in his village. Every week or so, these customers will return to him to have their lights recharged for just RWF 100.

Desire started selling lights in December 2012 and he has sold 30 lights to date (10 of which were funded by Kiva) providing clean energy to 150 people. With the money he makes from selling and recharging lights, he will be able to buy more and better food for his wife Dativa and their children.
