A loan of $100 helped to pay for 20 low-cost LED lights to resell to rural households without electricity.

Innocent's story

Innocent is a 41-year-old man from Gicumbi District in the Northern Province of Rwanda.

He is seeking a loan of 60,000 Rwandan francs (RWF) to purchase 20 rechargeable LED lights, which he will resell to people without electricity in his village. Every week or so, these customers will return to him to have their lights recharged for just RWF 100.

Innocent started selling lights in December, 2012, and he has sold 20 lights to date, providing clean energy to 100 people. With the money he makes from selling and recharging lights, he will pay for his children's school fees.
