Mary lives in Nkubu, Meru region of Eastern Kenya on the slopes of Mount Kenya. She has been farming for three years. Her main sources of income are eggs, tea leaves, maize and beans.
She wants to increase her poultry farming and has requested a loan of KES 60,000 from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase poultry. The proceeds from this loan will give her more income and thus improve her living standards. The challenges she faces are irrigation and poor climatic conditions.
In five years, she will have opened a milk bar. Mary says that Juhudi Kilimo offers quick services to the farmers.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
