A loan of $500 helped to buy more bags of maize and plantains.

Afua's story

Afua is 51 years old and a widow with 4 children. She has been selling farm produce in the local market for 20 years now. Due to her low income, she has not been able to support her children for them to acquire employable skills or the level of education needed to earn a living. She wants to use the loan to buy more produce to enable her to save some money to enable 2 of the children to learn a trade, as her children are grown, and they need to work so that they do not become social deviants.

She believes she can buy more for the lean season, when demand for the produce would be high and would give her a good income. Afua is a member of the group called Isaiah. Members agree to guarantee for each other as a form of social collateral in order to repay the loan.
