A loan of $675 helped to buy cosmetics and food supplies.

María Isabel's story

This is María’s fourth loan with the Medio Ejido communal bank. She lives on the outskirts of the city of Cuenca. This city has a lot of tourists because of its beautiful colonial architecture. It is bathed by four rivers and enveloped by expansive nature. Its people conserve the culture and traditions of their villages. She likes the communal bank because the loans allow her to improve her businesses.

María, age 33, is in a common-law marriage, and they have three children, ages 15, 11, and 6. Her first child is in high school, and the younger two attend a city elementary school. Her husband is a security guard. They do not have their own house, so they rent where they live.

María is a very hard-working woman. In addition to devoting herself to her household, she works at various business activities. She has been selling various brands of cosmetics for three years. Every day, from Sunday to Sunday, she works preparing and selling lunches. On the week-ends she makes snacks.

She will use her loan to buy cosmetics to sell and food supplies to prepare the food. This way she will continue growing in this business activity.

Her goal is to finish her house, which is now under construction.
