A loan of $925 helped to buy a sewing machine.

Maria's story

María, 57, lives with her spouse in the city of Cartagena. She’s the mother of four adult children and she earns income making clothes. She started her business venture 7 years ago although she has 10 years’ experience in this line of work because with her skills and aptitude for this work she worked making clothes to order and earned money doing so.

Gradually her business has been growing. She works every day from noon until 7 at night making and selling articles of clothing to her clientele consisting of her neighbors and friends as well as others referred by them.

Lately, her machine breaks down frequently and in order to continue meeting customer demand and staying in business she needs to buy a new sewing machine. This is the reason she’s calling on a Kiva loan, her first financing with Fundación Mario Santo Domingo, to buy her machine. Her goal is a successful investment since she has pending customer orders for adult and children’s clothes. Also, her main family goal is to support her husband with household expenses and to generate more well-being for her entire family.
