A loan of $1,350 helped to buy baking supplies to make brownies in larger volumes.

Yohaira's story

Yohaira, 24 years old, has a business making baked goods at home. She lives in the neighbourhood of Soledad, 15 minutes away from the city of Barranquilla. She has five years of experience and got her start when a family friend passed on her experiences in a similar business. Yohaira observed her every day and managed to learn to make baked goods. Her love for this type of work began from there. Bit by bit, she raised capital to buy basic tools, primary materials and supplies, and got her entrepreneurial dream rolling in 2010. Her sales are conducted on credit, while she makes her purchases with cash. Her working day runs from eight in the morning to seven at night. Her main customers are bakeries that put in orders and also refer her new customers. She is currently applying for a Kiva loan, which is her first loan with the Mario Santo Domingo Foundation. With this loan, she will buy supplies to make delicious desserts, especially brownies, which are her most popular product and generate high returns. This means that her Kiva loan will be a successful investment.
