Stephen is married with three children. He also takes care of his deceased brother's children, who are all in primary school. He lives in Ikinu division, Githunguri district, Kiambu county, in Central Kenya.
He is a hardworking farmer practicing dairy farming together with tea farming on his two-acre piece of land. Proceeds from this work have enabled him to cater for his family's needs and pay for the children's school fees.
Having attended one of the trainings organized by Visionary Empowerment Programme, he learned that he could save a lot of money on fuel by having a biodigester at his home. The biogas will be used for cooking and lighting. Every month he spends around $25 to buy kerosene and charcoal for cooking and lighting. This is not only costly for him but also tiresome, as the market is six kilometers away from his home. With biogas, this money can be saved. He has applied for a Kiva loan to facilitate the construction of a biodigester.
