Joseph's story

Joseph is 40 years old and lives in the town of Nakifuma in the Mukono region of Uganda. He is married and has 3 children who are all currently in school. For the past 3 years, Joseph has been working hard to manage his retail shop, which sells rice, sugar and salt.
To help expand his business, Joseph has requested a loan of 3,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more essential commodities such as salt and rice to sell, and will help Joseph to generate greater profits and pay school fees for his children so they can complete their studies. Joseph hopes that in the future he will be able to provide better quality services in his shop.
Joseph is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Joseph who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
