A loan of $400 helped a member to buy fertilizers for her farmland.

Sophen's Group's story

Sophen is a 34-year-old mother of three children living in a rural village of the Ou Reang Ov district, Cambodia. Out of her three children, she still has one son who is in school. To make a living, she and her husband have been farming rice and planting cassava for almost 14 years. The current business earns her about 28,000 KHR (Cambodian riels) per day.

This is the first microloan for Sophen’s group of two with Kiva’s partner VisionFund. Now leading her group to apply for a loan, Sophen will use her portion to buy fertilizers for her farmland, and will use a portion of it to spend on labor. She hopes this loan will enable her to earn more income so as to make a better living and keep her son in school until graduation.
