A villager from a rural area located in the Sangke district of Battambang province, Sert is 56 years old and widowed. She has six children, two of whom are still in school. The primary sources of her family’s income are from rice farming and growing cabbage. Having been in this business for 18 years, she can earn about $14 per day and manages to save about $9 each day after the expenses.
Sert has been a member of VisionFund for one cycle already and she wisely and successfully used the first loan to improve her family’s livelihood and relieve some financial burden. Now she is applying for another loan with VisionFund to plow her cultivated land. She hopes to grow healthier rice and cabbage so as to increase her family’s income, better her living conditions and keep her children in school.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
