Badri is 36 years old living in the small village of Zestaponi district, Tskhratskaro. He lives with his parents. His mother is 60 years old and works at the local hospital as a nurse. Badri requested loan from local financial institutions several times for family business start-up, but without any success. His loan request was rejected all the time, because of low income and family’s poor living conditions.

Family runs an agricultural business. In, particular they own a plot of agricultural land and have two milk cows. Badri and his father are cultivating the land seasonally. They saw on the land different kinds of vegetables. Badri’s mother milks the cows every day and produces fresh dairy products. As the family has been in this business for a long time, they have loyal customers who always prefer their products since they are high quality and sold at affordable prices. Besides Badri has a cafeteria in the center of Zestaponi district.
Badri requested loan from Credo to start-up family business. Badri has now been approved for a loan within the framework of the new joint initiative of Kiva and Credo. The start-up loan program envisages provision of business start-up and re-startup credits with soft conditions to rural poor people, who do not have access to credit products. These rural poor people are regarded as “high risk borrowers” because of their low income. With his credit Badri will purchase a coffee pouring machine, which will be located inside his cafeteria. Badri is very hardworking man. As his village is very small and this type of coffee will be totally new for the villagers, Badri will do his best to satisfy his existing clients and offer simultaneously additional products. This will impact on the numbers of clients and increase the profit. With the increased profit Badri will try expand the business and add new products. As Badri’s parents are close to the retirement age, he needs to take the primary responsibilities and provide better living conditions for them.
