A loan of $450 helped to buy an industrial stove.

Marelvis's story

Marelvis, 38, is the mother of three children, ages 2, 6, and 20. In 2009 she set up her own business venture after taking a course in pastry-making and baking at the Servicio Nacional de Aprendizaje, where she learned the best cooking techniques for these products.

Today she makes cakes, flan, and dessert, and recently she added lunch. She earns an income that benefits her family, which is dependent on her. She makes her purchases in cash in stores and supermarkets. She also makes her sales the same way.

She needs more capital to be able to expand her market and organize her business as a restaurant. This is exactly why she's applying for a Kiva loan, her first financing from Fundación Mario Santo Domingo. With it she'll buy an industrial stove to improve her infrastructure and little by little achieve her dream of prosperity. This way Marelvis and her children will get ahead with her effort in her autonomous job.
