Amos Jaward's Group's story

In this photo are teachers of a primary school situated in Kono, a city in eastern Sierra Leone. Like their colleague teachers in other regions of the country, they have requested a loan of 5,500,000 Sierra Leonean Leones from Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva.org based in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone. With this loan, they will be able to meet their immediate financial challenges. At the end of each month, they will repay the loan, using their monthly salaries.

The featured leader of this group of teachers is Amos Jaward. Born in Kailahun in eastern Sierra Leone, the 49-year-old is married and has 3 children, 1 of whom is attending secondary school, and the others are still not of school-going age. With 5 years of experience in the teaching profession, Amos Jaward is requesting this loan in order to pay college fees to pursue further studies.

(Also included on the right of the photo is a borrower who was not able to be present for the group snap shot).
