Malkhom Jlg Group
The profile member is Kimneilhing alias Lhingcha, she is on the extreme left of the picture with her right hand raised. She is 37 years of age and a divorcee.
Her life was very miserable and she had to find a means to support her two sons who are 11 and 9. She doesn't have any source of income to give her two sons a proper and quality education, but with a little help from her brother and from her daily wages in the farm, she was able to enroll them in the local government school. After she was separated from her ex-husband she
went to live in her brother's house and there she set up a tea stall with a little help from WSDS.
The tea stall was her primary source of income ever since she started it, and she said that her business is a full time responsibility, because of which she is not able to take another job. And she said that she has to be content with the meager income from her stall. She wishes to expand her business by attracting more customers, and for that she needs to buy more stock like tea leaves, sugar, milk and some ingredients. She is hopeful that the loan from Kiva will help her expand her tea stall.
She dreams of having a house for her own and her sons after 5 years. And she is very pleased and happy with the help she received from WSDS. She also said that WSDS has changed her life and what is now today is all because of the initiative and steps taken by WSDS. Without their support and help her life would have been very miserable and she would be helpless.
The other group members are also doing their bit by setting up similar stall in and around the village and also by raising piglets and buying things from the wholesale market from the nearest town and selling them in the village.
All the group members are happy to learn that Kiva will be providing them the loan and they are all eagerly waiting for it.

WSDS-Initiate is an inclusive nonprofit that works with women across all tribes and minority communities in Manipur, located in the remote northeast region of India. Most organizations concentrate their work in the plains region of Manipur, but WSDS is among the very few organizations serving women in the isolated hills. Political unrest and frequent economic blockades in the area make it very difficult to provide services, resulting in Manipur having the lowest penetration of financial services in the country.
This is a Group Loan
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
