A loan of $1,150 helped to buy compost.

Modesto's story

Modesto is 32 years old and is a responsible man. He lives with his wife, Celia, and they have two children whom they care for in his father in law's home, and have for four years. He has been farming on his own for the past 10 years and says that he has loved the land he farms on since he was a boy and he plants on it without rest. The extensive grasslands of his village also make it easy to farm, so he wants to buy more farmland and have many hectares to work. His main crops are tubers, oats, quinine, barley, and other things. "The river that runs though the valley has many tributaries, so I have good foodstuff," he says. This advantage allows him to sell his crops in the nearest town, where they pay a good price. This will be his second Kiva loan and he feels grateful for the financial support because it allows him to continue growing as a person. He is committed to being on time with his payments. Modesto will invest the 3,000 PEN from this loan in compost to feed his crops.
