A loan of $400 helped buy organic manure.

Esther's story

Esther is 20 years old, single, and lives in her parents’ house with all her family. Despite being young, she earns her living growing a range of produce. Ever since she was a young girl she was taught how to work the land and live off it: “I love being able to help my parents,” she says, “and I enjoy the countryside as it is quiet.” For this reason she began to grow potatoes, peas, beans and other vegetables on her parents’ land. With help from her siblings, she puts manure on the fields, and they all are constantly spreading fertilizer and planting crops.

Now it is the important planting season in the valley, so Esther wants to invest as much money as she can because she knows that in the January harvest, she will earn good money as she already has buyers for the produce.

This is Esther’s second loan with Kiva, and she is very grateful for the financial assistance. She plans to use the S/. 1000 soles to buy organic manure to spread on the potato crop.
