A loan of $575 helped to buy groceries such as rice, meat and vegetables.

Nerida's story

Nerida is 49 years old and is modest and unassuming. She has raised nine children, three of whom still live with her in her uncle and aunt’s home that she cares for. From the first hours of the day, she gets ready to work in some festival that is taking place in her area, because her principal work is selling food in the festivals of her valley. She says that her business is going well for her because she is one of the best cooks in her area – and moreover, she has been cooking for 20 years now for all kinds of celebrations that take place each year in her city.

Nerida would now like to improve her income. “I need a new awning for my stall, as well as pots and more utensils,” she says. This is her first Kiva loan. She says she feels happy to have the capital she needs to improve her business and therefore her quality of life. She will use the 1500 PEN to buy groceries such as rice, meat and vegetables that she uses to make her dishes.
