A loan of $425 helped to purchase more rice, Vita, pepper, palm oil, etc., for her business.

Hellen's story

Hellen is 45 years old and lives in the West Point area, which is the most populated market in Montserrado County. She is married and has nine children between the ages of 6 and 30. Only one is in school and lives at home. Hellen did not go to school.

Hellen describes herself as a hardworking person: for the past 13 years she has been running a table-market, selling rice, Vita, pepper, palm oil, etc., in the local market. She likes her business because of the way customers buy from her. She started this business with money given to her by her husband. She walks every day to buy her goods, since her table is much closer to the wholesales area.

Hellen is requesting a loan to purchase more rice, Vita [a juice drink made by Coca Cola for the African market], pepper, palm oil, etc., for her business. She plans to buy a piece of land and build a house. She would like to say thanks to the lenders who support BRAC Liberia to enable small business people to increase their business volume.
