A loan of $200 helped to purchase more Irish potatoes and food to sell.

Zaitun's story

Zaitun is 21 years old and lives in the town of Lugazi in the Mukono region of Uganda. She is married and has 3 children, 1 of whom is currently in school. For the past 3 years, Zaitun has been working hard to manage her small shop that sells fast foods.

To help expand her business, Zaitun has requested a loan of 500000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more Irish potatoes and food to sell. This will help Zaitun to generate greater profits and pay her children's school fees. Zaitun hopes that in the future she will be able to improve her family's standards of living.

Zaitun is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.
