Nuevas Amigas (Cuenca) Group's story

"Nuevas Amigas" (New Friends) is a communal bank that is made up of 10 female members who live in different areas of the city of Cuenca. This city is the third most important city in the country. It has been a World Heritage Site since December of 1999 and its historical center guards the secrets of its past. Its people, like all of the charismatic and happy members of the group, work very hard every day to improve their financial stability and give their children a better future. They still maintain their culture and traditions. One of the members of this group is Gladys. She has been a member of the "Nuevas Amigas" communal bank for some time now, during which she has established a great friendship with all of the members of this communal bank. Gladys lives in a common-law marriage and has conceived a child. She is very happy as she is expecting her second baby. Her husband works daily in the hard job of construction. The house in which they live is their own. For two years Gladys has worked raising and selling animals, especially chickens, which has been increasing little by little. She sells her chickens when they have a suitable weight and size. She sells them live or plucked. She is going to invest her loan in the purchase of chickens and animal feed. Her goals are to get ahead with her family and grow in her business in order to generate more income for her household. The small photograph is of a member that could not be present when the group photo was taken.
