A loan of $1,350 helped to buy organic fertilizer.

Marina's story

Marina, 58, lives in her own house with her husband Gabriel, who is 62. She learned the family business as a girl; therefore, she grows potatoes, ullucus, corn, and vetch. This work provides the income she needs to support her family. She also raises guinea pigs and chickens. She sells her harvest at wholesale in the local market, where she gets the best prices.

She loves working the land and does so with great care. She has been doing this work for 36 years. Transporting her merchandise to the wholesale markets is the most difficult chore, as drivers are very scarce in her area. Over time, she would like to buy more land to increase production.

This is her fourth loan cycle with Kiva, and she is grateful for the funding for her work. Marina will use the 3500 soles to buy organic fertilizer for her plantings.
