A loan of $825 helped to buy a kiln and a display case.

Rocio's story

Rocio, age 45, lives with her husband and their two minor children. She has been selling ceramic mementos for 15 years. She used to work as an employee of a warehouse that produced these items. She, the same as various colleagues with whom she worked, decided to undertake her own business adventure in order to be independent. She also did this to produce income to help her husband with the family expenses.

She buys the product already made but not finished. She paints and shines them, and she sells them as souvenirs to the customers who are preparing for parties for babies, children, or adults. She sells for cash. She makes her purchases in a small shop in the Fundación municipality in the Magdalena department. Her work schedule is from 8 to 10 in the morning and from 1 in the afternoon until 11 at night. This is because she also does the household chores.

She is now applying for a Kiva loan, her first loan with the Fundación Mario Santo Domingo. She will use the loan to buy a kiln so that she can produce the items herself. She will also buy a display case to exhibit them. Her greatest wish is to expand her business and to add more and more customers.

Her greatest challenge is to manage to support her children’s professional education. That is why she works incessantly to fulfill her dream of prosperity.
