A loan of $650 helped to buy fabrics and materials.

Lucila's story

Lucila is 63 years old. She makes clothing, blankets and bedspreads. She has done this for 20 years. After working at a textile factory, she took her retirement package and invested in a sewing business, starting her own enterprise to generate independent income. Today her main products are women's dresses, pants and knitting. Right now she is applying for a Kiva loan, the first loan she has taken out with the Fundación Mario Santo Domingo. With it, she will buy fabrics and materials to make blankets, pants and sweaters. In her little workshop, Lucila does all kinds of sewing, from design to cutting, getting the item ready for assembly and finishing the product. Her goal is to expand this business and make more money to improve her family's living conditions. This goal is what drives her to work and strive every day to reach her dream of prosperity.
