A loan of $3,375 helped a member to buy fertilizers, seeds, and pay for plowing.

Djiguisseme 3 Group's story

The eight members of Djiguissème 3 Group are married men who average 40 years of age and five children. All live in traditional families in Foh, a village in Sikasso, third administrative region of Mali.

They work with Kiva's partner, the MFI Soro Yiriwaso, in order to carry out their farming business during the rainy season. They are seeking their sixth loan from the MFI. The previous loans were repaid without problems. Their crops include corn.

Nafo is the man standing on the left in the photograph. He intends to use his loan to buy fertilizers, seeds, and pay for plowing, in order to maintain two hectares.

After the harvest, the production is sold in the village and at the market in Sikasso, to a clientele comprising both men and women. Nafo intends to turn an average profit of XOF 300'000 (ca US$ 600) per farming cycle.

This profit will enable him to repay the loan and help him cover the daily expenses of his large family.
