A loan of $5,175 helped a member buy pigs she raises and sells.

Agath's Group's story

The group was founded April 19, 2004. It consists of women from the same neighborhood who have a good relationship. Their main activities are trading and fattening livestock.

Standing to the right of the photo and raising her hand, featured member Oumy is 38 years old. She is married and has seven children of whom two are boys and five are girls.

With the loan received she will buy piglets (around 10 to 13) for 15,000 francs apiece, She then raises them for a while before selling them at 25,000 francs each. She will use 100,000 to 150,000 francs for the purchase of pig food and for maintenance.

Profits generated will be used to take care of household needs (buy food, pay for children's schooling) and strengthen her savings with the local "Banc Villageois" loan association.
