Philip A.k.'s Group's story

Pictured here are teachers from a primary school located in Kenama, a city in eastern Sierra Leone. This group of teachers has come to SMT, a Kiva partner based in Makeni in northern Sierra Leone, to apply for a loan of 5,500,000 SLL (Sierra Leonean Leones). With the help of this loan, they can meet their immediate and most pressing financial needs and, at the end of each month, their school’s bursar can easily repay the loan on their behalf out of their salaries. Philip is their featured leader. He is 52 years old. Born in Feiba, he is married to a trader, and the couple have two children who are attending secondary school. Philip has been a schoolteacher for 32 years. He has applied for this loan in order to buy building materials, including corrugated iron sheets, sand, cement and iron rods, to build a house.
