Serious Women Group's story

Meet the members of the Serious Women group from Waterloo, a town in western Sierra Leone. They are all local entrepreneurs who have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org, to apply for a loan of 500,000 SLL (Sierra Leone leones) for each. With the help of this loan, they will be able to expand their respective businesses, make more sales and consequently, improve their living conditions.

Kadiatu is the featured leader of this group. The 36-year-old is a native of Makonkarie village. She is married to a trader, and they have three children who are attending primary and secondary school. Kadiatu has been a businesswoman for many years now; she sells charcoal. With her share of this loan, she will buy a large quantity of charcoal to add to her current stock.
