Isatu B.'s Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva.org in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone, is very pleased to present to you this group of primary school teachers located in Waterloo, a small town near Freetown, Sierra Leone’s capital city. They have come to SMT to request a loan of SLL 12,900,000 in order to meet their most pressing financial needs. At the end of each month, they can easily repay the loan using their monthly salaries. It is their school’s bursar who is responsible for managing the deductions and making the repayments on their behalf. Isatu is the featured leader of this group. The 45-year-old is a native of Freetown city. She is married to a teacher and the couple has 4 children – 1 is attending primary school, 2 are in secondary school and 1 is in college. Isatu has been a professional teacher for 17 years now. She has requested this loan in order to pay college/school fees for her children. (Also attached on the photo are colleagues/borrowers who collected their loan later on)
