A loan of $1,000 helped a member to buy clothes.

Benkadi Group's story

BENKADI Group is made up of five married women, who average 34 years of age and three children. They live in extended traditional families in HEREMAKONO NORD, a neighborhood in Bougouni. They got acquainted through bonds of community, friendship, and business.

To bolster their financial capacity and improve their businesses, they joined Kiva's partner, the MFI Soro Yiriwaso, from which they are seeking their third loan. The previous two were repaid without problems.

The women in this group sell clothing, as does Assan, which is the one sitting in the photograph. She intends to use her loan to buy two bales of used clothing from wholesalers in Bamako.

She retails in the market and at her home, for cash and on credit, to a clientele comprising mostly women. She foresees turning an average monthly profit of XOF 35'000 (ca US$ 70), that she will use to repay the loan and invest in her business.

In this group: Assan, Habi, Aminata, Awa, Safiatou
