Mohamed's Group's story

These are teachers in a technical vocation in the city of Kenema, in eastern Sierra Leone. This school was founded in 1994 by the Roman Catholic Mission to improve education in the community. Teachers of this institution have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org, in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone, to request a loan.

Mohamed is the featured leader of the group. Mohamed is age 31. He was born in Loppa Dama, in eastern Sierra Leone. Mohamed is married to a teacher and has three children, who are attending primary and secondary schools. He has been in the teaching profession for 12 years, now. Mohamed is going to invest his loan in a business. He will buy palm oil (the country’s most popular cooking oil) in large quantity, to sell in the local market. In this way, he will be able to generate additional income to supplement his monthly salary.
