A loan of $600 helped to purchase grains.

Lassine's story

Mr. LASSINE is 46 years old and lives with his eight children and wife in a traditional family in DONGORONA, a village in the sub-prefecture of Ouelessebougou, in Région de Koulikoro.

LASSINE did not have the chance to go to school. Early on, he became interested in revenue-generating businesses, especially in the buying, stocking, and selling of grains. He learned this business from his older brother, who excelled in the sector.

Concerned about satisfying his clearly growing customer base, he decided to collaborate with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso. After having correctly repaid the third loan, he is on his fourth individual loan, which will be used to purchase 4 tonnes of grains (corn, millet, 'fonio') from peasant producers in and around DONGORONA that he will keep for at least three months. He essentially sells in bulk to a customer base composed of retailers from the big cities, such as Bamako.

LASSINE hopes to make an average monthly profit of 85,000 francs CFA that will be used to pay back the loan and to reinvest the rest in his business.
