A loan of $800 helped to purchase grains.

Drissa's story

DRISSA is 40 years old and lives with his seven children and wives in the sub-prefecture of Ouelessebougou, in Région de Koulikoro. DRISSA did not have the chance to go to school. Early on, he became interested in revenue-generating businesses, especially in the buying, stocking, and selling of grains. He learned this business from his maternal uncle, who used to be a major merchant of grains. Concerned about satisfying his clearly growing customer base, he decided to collaborate with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso. After having correctly repaid the third loan, he is on his fourth individual loan, which will be used to purchase 5 tonnes of grains from peasant producers in and around DONGORONA that he will keep for at least three months. He essentially sells in bulk to a customer base composed of retailers from the big cities, such as Bamako, OUELESSEBOUGOU. DRISSA hopes to make an average monthly profit of 90,000 francs CFA that will be used to pay back the loan and to reinvest the rest in his business.
