Massaran's story

Born around 1976 in Kangare, Massaran lives with her husband and child in a monogamous household in the Kangaré area of the city of Sélingué.
Massaran did not have the opportunity to go to school, and very quickly became interested in income-generating activities, notably the buying and selling of incense, damask pagnes (brightly-printed West African clothing), and cosmetics. After having properly repaid her previous loans, Massaran is on her fourth loan with Soro Yiriwaso, which will be used to buy a large quantity of incense, 20 sets of damask pagnes, and several boxes of cosmetics from the wholesalers in Bamako. She makes her sales in cash, on credit, and at retail at her store in Kangaré to a clientele composed of men and women.
Massaran hopes to realize a monthly profit of 70,000 FCFA, which will be used to help her husband provide for the family, to repay the loan, and the reinvest in her business.
