A loan of $325 helped to buy wholesale seafood.

Milka's story

Milka, 42, is married and has three children who live with her in her own house. Milka sells seafood. She gets up at 4 AM and heads to the fishing pier in the city to buy wholesale merchandise from the fisherman who have arrived with the day's catch. She selects the fish that her clients request most based on the season: palometa, bagre, and sardines. She sells fish by the kilo, walking the city streets and then at a city market. Luckily, she sells everything and can finish her work by 8 AM. She has been doing this for about three years, and she says that the business provides money for food and education for her children. She likes that her work allows her to take care of her children in the morning and to rest in the afternoon. She hopes to keep up her work routine for a long time. Milka is requesting S/. 800 soles. She is grateful to the lenders for this loan, which she needs to grow her business. She will use the loan to buy seafood her clients most request at wholesale. This is the season in which demand increases for certain types of fish such as sardines and barga.
