A loan of $2,200 helped buy better seeds to improve the quality of the vegetables he grows and thus increase his income.

Ruben's story

Ruben is married and has five children, two boys and three girls, all of whom attend school. He lives in his own house with a yard; it also has a bedroom and kitchen but no bathroom. The house is made of adobe with earth floors. It is located in the Mecapaca zone, Palomar sector.

Ruben currently grows vegetables as does his wife who also weeds the fields. The produce is sold in the same area where they live as well as in the town of La Paz. Ruben also sells construction materials. He has a store located in the Palomar area. The place where he grows vegetables is full of earth and dust. Ruben and his wife work every day of the week and pay for services, food, clothing, and their children’s education jointly.

The loan Ruben is seeking will be used to buy improved seeds so he can grow better vegetables, sell them more quickly, and for better prices.

His dream is to have some working capital and tools that help him improve production so that he can have a better quality of life. This is the first time he has asked IMPRO and Kiva for a loan.
