A loan of $200 helped a member to buy and start selling second-hand clothes.

Janefer's Group's story

Janefer's group is comprised of two hard-working women. Janefer is 22 years old and lives in the town of Wobulezi in the Luwero region of Uganda. For the past two years, Janefer has been working hard to manage her salon, which does hair dressing.

To help expand her business, Janefer has requested a loan of 300,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy and start selling second-hand clothes, and will help Janefer to generate greater profits and bring electricity to her house. Janefer hopes that in the future she will be able to build rental houses.

Janefer is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to micro-finance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
