A loan of $1,600 helped to buy fish.

María Elizabeth's story

The Communal Bank Ruta Del Sol meets every other week in Puerto López, a place surrounded by beautiful beaches and tourist attractions. Every year the humpback whales arrive to mate, an event that attracts many tourists at this time of the year. Here is where María lives. She is a 43-year old woman, married and mother of three children, aged 24, 15 and 14. Her two youngest children attend school and her husband is a salesman.

María works in an inn and is requesting a loan to help her husband in his business. He works selling fish and almost every day needs to go to the beach in the mornings where he buys the fish to the fishermen and resell to retailers in other towns. He has been in this profession for 15 years and is how he earns a living and supports his family. He will use this loan to buy fish for sale.

She has been with the Communal Bank since it started and likes it because she can help her husband to get ahead. Her dream is to provide her children with a good education.
