A loan of $275 helped to purchase more maize, thus enabling her to prepare and sell more of her tasty kenkey.

Esi's story

After graduating from secondary school, Esi decided to set up her own ‘kenkey’ selling business. Kenkey is a traditional Ghanaian staple dish that is made from corn dough and is wrapped in banana leaves. She prepares her kenkey on her own and sells it in Ohiaba, near Cape Coast. With over 3 years-worth of experience, she is currently looking to expand her enterprise further. Unfortunately, she is limited by the lack of funding. As a result, this loan will be used to help her purchase more maize, thus enabling her to prepare and sell more of her tasty kenkey. She aims to use the profits from her business to help support her husband, who is a teacher, with the upkeep of their house whilst ensuring that their 1 child is able to experience a better life.
