A loan of $2,175 helped a member to open a new place and sell sarongs.


Jasiri Group's story

Mariam, who is in her mid-30s, is married and has two kids, a boy and a girl, who are in school. For a year, Mariam has been able to cover her family’s costs by running a fruit and vegetable business. She is doing okay in her business. She works from 6 am to 3 pm daily and is able to make a fair monthly profit. This will be her tenth loan from Tujijenge Tanzania. With the previous loans, all of were repaid successfully, she managed to increase her stock of fruits and vegetables. With the profits, she has bought a TV set, a bed, and a cupboard, and she has also paid school fees for her kids. She will use this loan to open a new place and sell sarongs. She dreams of being able to build a house some day. She will share this loan with her loan group, Jasiri Group, which consists of 11 members. The members of the group will hold each other accountable for paying back the loan.
