A loan of $1,075 helped to buy perfumes, creams, cosmetics, and clothes.

Gladys Candelaria's story

The members of the community bank Madres Unidas (Mothers United) meet every two weeks in Los Bajos de Montecristi, a city known for it's great diversity of local products such as, for instance, the straw hats that are well-known within and beyond the country.
Gladys lives in this place. She is 55 years old, married, and has 5 grown children from this marriage, 2 of whom still live with her. Her husband is a farmer.
Gladys is a housewife who, in order to have her own income and to help her husband with the household expenses, sells all types of clothes and products from Avon and Yanabal (beauty products, cosmetics, perfume, and women's accessories.) She works 3 days a week for 2 or 3 hours a day. She sells her products on credit and makes collections every week. She has more than 18 years of experience doing this and the profits have enabled her to succeed because her husband sometimes does not have work or doesn't earn much in the fields.
She will use this loan to buy perfumes, creams, cosmetics, and clothes. She has been with the community bank since the beginning and she likes it because of the help that they give with the loans.
Her dream is to get ahead.
